The 6-month stage is one of the most delightful phases in a baby’s first year. That’s when they’re full of personality, curiosity, and expressions that feel completely magical, and show up like a dream on camera.

At this age, babies are no longer newborns, but they’re not yet toddlers either. They are discovering their bodies, reacting to the world around them, and showing off their first real bursts of personality. This makes it the perfect time for baby milestone photography. So if you’re wondering when to do a baby photoshoot, you know the answer.
They pull out all the cute poses!
We get really excited to see a 6-month-old at the studio, because they’re pulling out all the adorable poses. It’s playful, natural, and something they outgrow far too quickly. With the happy baby, they are on their back, holding the feet in their hands or trying to put it in their mouth, and this gives you the perfect frame that defines the 6-month milestone stage.

Then there is the tripod sit. This is when your baby is trying to sit up with a bit of support, leaning forward and looking straight into the camera. This position creates a lovely, balanced frame, and we’re always looking out for that moment where they fall over in slow motion.

Tummy time is also a highlight at this stage. When babies lift their heads, push up with their arms, and interact with their surroundings, the pictures are full of life and energy. Their expressions are at their peak too, big smiles, curious looks, and spontaneous giggles that are incredibly heartwarming to capture.
A moment for the in-between stage: Baby milestone ideas
What makes the 6-month milestone so special is that it represents the purest version of babyhood. It is that blink-of-an-eye moment between being a newborn and a full-blown toddler, filled with softness, playfulness, and wonder, before the chaos of walking, running away, and mischief truly begins.

At Mommy Shots, we focus on capturing these moments naturally, allowing your baby’s personality to shine through without over-staging. Our approach is “Baby-led,” which means we let your baby decide how the 6-month baby photoshoot will go. That makes the results warm, whimsical, and a joy for years to come.
