Pregency or Pre-natal portrait shoot have been in vogue for a while now. When you spot an expecting mum donning those gorgeous maternity gowns, figure hugging baby-friendly short dresses and those pretty tiaras that give you a princess vibes,it is an all-to familiar image to most of us. so three years ago i decided that i would try and imbibe our ethnicity in maternity portraits, as i did receive lot of requests to have kids captured in ethnic outfits. The thought converted into an idea which was then converted into an actual portrait and that, if i may so brought a whole new touch to the maternity portraits after. It felt real, raw, authentic to dress indian women,in well, indian clothing and capture their effervescence of starting a family.
Here is glimpse of pics from this month edition of Mother and Baby magazine. Also got an opportunity to capture the beautiful Nishkalulla and her little bub M for the coverstory for the month.
One of the most interesting parts of being a photographer is the opportunity to work with amazing gear that helps you create stunning images. When commissioned as a professional, it becomes my priority to be capable of delivering the highest quality of images to my clients; Images that can be printed to large sizes showcasing every tiny detail with right colour and definition.
In order to do that, I am proactively seeking the best gear in the market to work with. With technology advancing at such a high rate, it’s important to stay updated with what the market has to offer to further simplify our lives and make cameras easier to handle which allows me to focus on creating better compositions and frames.
I’ve been a Sony Artisan for a while now, having switched to Sony Alpha gear completely. The switch has been a great one, to say the least. It’s been a game changer in so many ways with some amazing features that can benefit a child photographer. The capability of the Eye-AF tracker and locking its focus has never allowed me to miss a shot. The light-weight mirrorless body of the A7Riii makes my movement easier, especially while working with older kids who give me a fair amount of cardio to catch up with them and get a shot.
List of Equipment:
24mm G master f1.4
55mm Sony Zeiss
85mm G Master f1.2
90mm Macro f2.8
In line with my genre of Photography, it also was important to consider the safety of babies and children in my child-friendly studio, while working with studio lights. This is precisely why I chose Profoto Lights, a top brand in the lighting space, which are wireless (making it a safer zone for toddlers, less cumbersome and less messy). Profoto lights are also UV coated, making it very safe for newborns and babies. And it would be unfair to end the blog without telling you how amazing and simple it is to work with Profoto lights, helping me light up gorgeous portraits of babies and children without being challenged to adjust them ever so often.
Being a photographer, I get to meet lot of amazing people on my journey. One such amazing mom is Saranya. Having known her since 2 years, from her first shoot till date, capturing her little one growing up, we have become good friends over time. When Saranya brought up her sickness early this year, I felt terrible and extremely helpless. But I watched her fight back this period, embrace her shadows, help other who are going through a similar phase, needless to say, I was in absolute awe of her strength and courage.
I’m honoured to know this strong woman and privileged to have captured these images for Mother and Baby magazine who shared Saranya’s story in their August 2019 edition, as their cover story.

Wouldn’t you like to turn back time and see a day in the life of your child? A day in the life of raising your child? A day in your life!Well, that’s precisely what I offer you with ‘A day in the life of…….’ package. Best captured with ‘Documentary photography’, this storytelling approach is used to tell your story, personally, just for you. It involves said photographer (me), spending a day with you and your family, capturing you all on the go as life happens. This can be at your home, on VACATION or pretty much any place you want to remember your day by.
Here is a glimpse of recent "A day in the life of series “for Samaira and Samira, shot at their residence, a house they’re currently growing up in. Mommy S wanted to record their current age to remind them of the place they spent their growing years in. I had a great time capturing their little moments from their daily life routine. Hope you like it too!
